The Monument to Women and Freedom was inaugurated with a ceremony.

The Women and Freedom Monument, built by Yeniboğaziçi Municipality at the joint request of women's associations operating within its borders, was inaugurated with a ceremony held on November 25th, the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. The ceremony was attended by the consul general, members of parliament, mayors, association representatives, village heads, council members, and local residents.

The program began with an opening speech highlighting women's struggle for life and a minute of silence.

Meral Akıncı, President of KAYAD (Women's Rights Association), emphasized that November 25th is an awareness day in memory of the Mirabel Sisters, highlighting the importance of making violence visible.

Nazenin Taşçıoğlu Şahali, President of the Yeniboğaziçi Women's Association, stated that the monument represents a societal statement regarding women's right to life, equality, and freedom.

Mayor Katip Demir stated that the monument came to life at the joint request of women's associations, adding, "The doors of our municipality are always open to our women."

During the ceremony, Assembly Member Esen Beyköylü recited the poem "Woman." Following this, the ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by protocol members, took place, officially opening the monument.

The monument, depicting a woman holding a dove, symbolizes freedom, peace, hope, and women's resistance.

Our municipality will continue to increase and expand such events and awareness campaigns aimed at empowering women.

"There is a secret bond between slowness and memory, between speed and forgetting. A man is walking down the street. At a certain moment, he tries to recall something, but the recollection escapes him. Automatically, he slows down. Meanwhile, a person who wants to forget a disagreeable incident he has just lived through starts unconsciously to speed up his pace, as if he were trying to distance himself from a thing still too close to him in time. The degree of slowness is directly proportional to the intensity of memory; the degree of speed is directly proportional to the intensity of forgetting."
